Please note: I've amended this challenge from 30-Days to 30-Ways. Please join me!
This 30-day challenge is not my idea. It's 100% based on the book, Excuse Me, Your Life Is Waiting, written by Lynn Grabhorn. I was inspired to read this book because of my affiliation with a company called Send Out Cards. Kody Bateman, the founder of Send Out Cards, was tremendously inspired by this book. I am tremendously inspired by Kody Bateman. So here goes...
For the next 30 days I commit to appreciate one specific thing about myself each day. That's it.
The assignment is to create a list of 30, yes 30, things to appreciate about yourself.
The plan is that every time you catch yourself focusing on a negative, whether it's worry, frustration, anger, insecurity, guilt, etc... any type of negative, you immediately switch your focus to appreciating your pre-assigned item for the day. By having a predetermined list, you don't have to grapple for something, anything, positive to focus on when in the midst of a pity party, or other energy draining focus. Sticking with the predetermined item is part of the deal. (No switching just because adult ADD kicks in.)
Why bother? Because like attracts like. Because thoughts are energy. Because energy is life. Because positive energy sure beats negative energy. The more positive energy you put out, the more you experience life at a higher, happier, more loving level. And habits are hard to break. The habit of entertaining negativity, in any form, is deeply ingrained. We need at least 30 days to break out of it.
One more thing - if it seems weird to start with appreciating things about yourself... please know... I'm struggling here too. All I can say is, let's try it and see what happens.
I invite you to join me. Make your list of 30 things to appreciate about yourself and let's see what happens together.
